Actel Joins HyperTransport Technology Consortium

6/25/2002 - As part of its BridgeFPGATM corporate initiative to deliver optimized communications interface solutions for bridging applications, Actel Corporation (Nasdaq: ACTL) announced that it has joined the HyperTransportTM Technology Consortium, an organization aimed at promoting the development and adoption of the HyperTransport interface standard. As a member, Actel is demonstrating its determination to remove system design bottlenecks and dramatically increase the performance of next-generation, high-speed communications designs.

"Communications interfaces are becoming a critical element in today's high-speed networking and communications products," said Barry Marsh, vice president of product marketing at Actel. "Our membership in the HyperTransport Consortium is a reflection of our pledge to deliver best- in-class interface solutions to our customers. We see significant value in combining leading-edge communications interfaces, such as HyperTransport, with programmable logic in order to resolve interoperability problems that designers frequently encounter when using the variety of application-specific solutions and standard products available today."

"As a leading provider of programmable logic devices, Actel is a valuable addition to our consortium," stated Gabriele Sartori, president of the HyperTransport Technology Consortium. "Actel's commitment to explore and deliver next-generation BridgeFPGA solutions makes them a great partner in the movement to make HyperTransport technology a widely adopted standard in the high-speed, high-performance communications arena."

About Actel's BridgeFPGA Initiative
Announced in May 2001, Actel's BridgeFPGA corporate initiative addresses the interfacing and interoperability problems within systems created by the proliferation of high-performance interface standards. Leveraging its expertise in programmable logic and its history of success in interface applications, Actel is in the process of creating highly flexible user-programmable devices that seamlessly integrate dedicated high-speed I/O circuits and embedded interface protocol controllers with the FPGA fabric. To provide next-generation technology for communications interfaces, Actel is partnering with key intellectual property (IP) providers, such as Tality Corp. To help designers avoid or address interoperability problems in the future, the company is a member of multiple standards committees, including the Infiniband Trade Association, Network Processing Forum, RapidIO Trade Association, Optical Internetworking Forum, IEEE 10 Gbps Forum and the HyperTransport Technology Consortium.

About HyperTransport Technology
HyperTransport technology is a high-speed, high-performance, point-to- point link for integrated circuits, and is designed to meet the bandwidth needs of tomorrow's computing and communications platforms. HyperTransport technology helps reduce the number of buses while providing a high-performance link for PCs, workstations, and servers, as well as numerous embedded applications and highly scalable multiprocessing systems.

About HyperTransport Technology Consortium
The HyperTransport Technology Consortium is a nonprofit corporation managed by its members. The consortium promotes the common business interests of providers to the networking, telecommunications, computer and high-performance embedded application through the conduct of a forum for the future development and adoption of the HyperTransport specification.

AMD, Apple Computers, Broadcom, Cisco Systems, NVIDIA, PMC-Sierra, SGI, Sun Microsystems and Transmeta are the charter members that comprise the Executive Committee of the HyperTransport Technology Consortium.

Companies interested in the HyperTransport specification are invited to join the consortium. Members of the consortium pay annual dues and receive a royalty-free license to HyperTransport IP, gain access to technical documentation and may attend consortium meetings and events. To become a member, visit the consortium Web site at Please review the Bylaws of the HyperTransport Technology Consortium, and complete the online membership application.
