6/24/2002 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:°A) introduced customized RMC Plus L and Plus LS remote management cards for the Intel(r) Performance Appliance Platform reference design, the first to feature an Integrated Platform Management Interface (IPMI)-compliant Baseboard Management Controller. Both cards also feature an embedded Web server to provide remote management, including power up/down and a remote diagnostics capability that improves the ability of service providers and network managers to keep their networks operating continuously, without interruption.
The RMC Plus L and Plus LS cards are pre-configured for the Intel Performance Appliance Platform and are the first cards to feature an IPMI-compliant Baseboard Management Controller. The Plus L provides a LAN interface, and the Plus LS features serial and LAN interfaces. The cards send alarms automatically if processor temperatures or system voltages exceed limits or if fans fail. Network operators also can view the appliance server's screen information.
Communications appliances are closed, fixed-function specialized computers that operate at various points on the network to run applications for network services, optimization or management. The Intel Performance Appliance Platform is designed to enable communication appliance solutions for large enterprise and Internet Service Provider (ISP) applications. This reference design is ideal for security, voice and network management appliances, as well as other applications requiring high I/O bandwidth and increased system memory.
"As communications applications become more complex and the demand for continuous uptime increases, enterprise and Internet service providers have identified remote management as a necessary requirement," said Siegfried Gross, vice-president and general manager of Agilent's Boeblingen Verification Solutions Division. "By adding an IPMI-compliant remote management solution to the Intel communications appliance reference design, Agilent makes the design of remote management-enabled systems easier to implement."
"When users of our network appliance reference design indicated the need for remote management capability, Intel tapped into Agilent's expertise to provide an IPMI-compliant remote management capability on an Intel network appliance platform," said Ton Steenman, director of marketing for the Embedded Intel Architecture Division.
