6/19/2002 - Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX), today announced its membership in the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF), a non-profit organization chartered with accelerating the adoption of optical Ethernet as the technology of choice for metro networks worldwide. In addition to enhancing worldwide awareness of the benefits of Ethernet services and Ethernet-based metro transport networks, MEF also facilitates the implementation of new and existing standards, Ethernet service definition, test procedures and technical specifications of the MEF to allow delivery of Ethernet services and enable carrier-class Ethernet-based metro networks.
"Xilinx membership illustrates the diversity of MEF, which consists of many different organizations from both the box builders and service providers to the solution providers," said Nan Chen, president of the MEF. "Industry leaders such as Xilinx strengthen our mission of accelerating the adoption of optical Ethernet in worldwide metro area networks."
