New CSR engineering design enables lower cost Bluetooth headsets

6/13/2002 - CSR (Cambridge Silicon Radio) today launched a ready-engineered example of a Bluetooth™ headset. This fully specified design will make it quicker and easier for companies to produce their own lowest cost headsets using CSR’s BlueCore™ technology and is being made available through CSR’s website ( by the end of June 2002. The design is focused on reducing both costs and power consumption to an absolute minimum. It has a low component count and no host microcontroller is needed. Instead the headset firmware runs directly on the Bluetooth chip, this exploits the availability of the on-chip microcontroller inside the CSR BlueCore2. In addition BlueCore2 delivers world class voice quality on Bluetooth audio links, considerably better than many competitors.
