New CSR engineering design enables lower cost Bluetooth headsets

6/13/2002 - CSR (Cambridge Silicon Radio) today launched a ready-engineered example of a Bluetooth™ headset. This fully specified design will make it quicker and easier for companies to produce their own lowest cost headsets using CSR’s BlueCore™ technology and is being made available through CSR’s website (www.csr.com) by the end of June 2002. The design is focused on reducing both costs and power consumption to an absolute minimum. It has a low component count and no host microcontroller is needed. Instead the headset firmware runs directly on the Bluetooth chip, this exploits the availability of the on-chip microcontroller inside the CSR BlueCore2. In addition BlueCore2 delivers world class voice quality on Bluetooth audio links, considerably better than many competitors.
