6/6/2002 - PEP Modular Computers is now launching the successor of the VMP1 CPU introduced in 1999. The new 3U VME processor card (single-board computer), VMP2, is equipped with the Motorola processor Kahlua II (MPC8245) and, compared to the previous version (with MPC8240), offers a few striking increases in performance. Despite this increased performance, PEP has succeeded in reducing the power consumption of the single-board computer by 15 %. The CPU, which is predestined for industrial applications with high demands on computing performance and/or memory capacity, has all the necessary communication interfaces: These include a Fast Ethernet interface with 10Bt/100Bt and autosensing as well as the two serial interfaces (1 x RS232 modem-compatible and 1 x RS232/485 which is also available optionally opto-decoupled).
