6/18/2002 - Marvell® (NASDAQ: MRVL), a technology leader in the development of extreme broadband communications solutions, today announced that its Serial ATA technology has been widely adopted into numerous product designs, including motherboards, add-in host controller and RAID cards, storage subsystems, and hard disk drives (HDDs). This broad array of products will be on display during Marvell's technology roadshow in Taiwan, China and Hong Kong, June 17-28, 2002. The large number of Serial ATA (SATA) products being shown during Marvell's technology roadshow and displayed at the recent Computex Taiwan tradeshow indicate that the industry is poised for a rapid transition to this new interface technology. "The market is going to see a fast migration from traditional Parallel ATA to Serial ATA over the next two to three years," stated Mark Geenan, President of TrendFOCUS, a leading provider of market research to the storage industry. TrendFOCUS projects over 228M HDD unit shipments in 2005 to be SATA equipped, a 300% CAGR. The main area for this growth will be for HDD desktop applications, comprising approximately 177M units (a 268.6% CAGR) in 2005. "This growth for Serial ATA is attributed to improved scalability and performance," added Geenan.
