Exar Extends Growing SONET/SDH Data Aggregation Product Family Multi-Channel, Multi-Function Chip Aggregates three DS3/E3/STS-1 or Maps ATM Cells or IP packets

5/28/2002 - Exar Corporation (Nasdaq: EXAR), a leading provider of high-performance, mixed-signal silicon solutions for the worldwide communications infrastructure announced today an addition to the Company's innovative SONET/SDH aggregation products. The XRT94L33 (SONET/SDH STS-3/STM-1 to DS3/E3/STS-1 mapper) is capable of aggregating three DS3/E3/STS-1 into OC-3/STM-1 or provide payload mapping for ATM cells or IP packets (PPP) into OC-3/STM-1. This highly integrated device joins other recently announced Exar products incorporating the industry's first desynchronization solution, which addresses mapping/demapping data from SONET/SDH (synchronous) to DS3/E3 (asynchronous) networking environments. Application targets include digital cross connects, concentrators, edge switches, access equipment and add/drop multiplexers. Additional SONET/SDH aggregation products are planned for release over the next several quarters. "This product joins our initial SONET/SDH data aggregation device (XRT94L43) announced last October. Both are ideally suited for access and metropolitan area network applications," said Dr. Roubik Gregorian, senior VP and general manager Communications Division, CTO.
