Brooktrout Addresses Call Discrimination Standards for Softswitches

5/21/2002 - James Rafferty, senior product manager for IP Telephony at Brooktrout Technology, will present "Call Discrimination and Service Transparency" at the 2002 MGC conference in Paris, France. Rafferty's presentation will address why effective call discrimination-the ability to automatically detect different media types-is an essential pre-requisite for packet telephony networks to handle the full range of traffic that is currently handled by the existing circuit-switched infrastructure. This concept is known as Service Transparency. He will identify the drivers for service transparency, discuss the status of standards for call discrimination, address the voice/fax call flow of the H.238 annex F and identify potential extensions for call discrimination.
