ARC and Fraunhofer announce audio decoder technology for new mp3PRO standard

3/11/2002 - ARC International (LSE: ARK), a system provider and leader in user-customizable processors and software for communications and consumer products, and the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (Fraunhofer IIS), a leader in high quality, low bit-rate audio coding research and the home of MP3, have announced the joint development of a solution for the new mp3PRO standard, based on the ARCtangent(TM)-A4 32-bit RISC processor. The new mp3PRO standard, developed by Coding Technologies (CT), is an update to the MP3 technology, enabling higher quality audio at low bit rates. This means digital audio devices can provide the same quality of sound but with a smaller memory overhead and lower-bandwidth internet connection.
