2/5/2002 - Xilinx, Inc., (NASDAQ:XLNX), today announced that Point Grey Research, a leading designer and manufacturer of advanced vision technologies, has begun production of the world’s smallest IEEE-1394 board level CCD camera. An OEM version of the Point Grey Dragonfly, the camera achieves it’s ultra-small package by utilizing Xilinx Spartan FPGAs to implement CCD timing, data buffering, external lighting, advanced asynchronous trigger and IEEE-1394 link layer functions. Because it is based on FPGA technology, the camera is completely reprogrammable via the 1394 interface allowing simple field upgradeability. Point Grey is one of the many companies utilizing Xilinx low-cost FPGAs to gain a competitive advantage in digital video applications using the IEEE-1394 link layer functionality.
