Fujitsu launches Australia's first secure electronic messaging service

12/19/2002 - Fujitsu Australia, in conjunction with the Sunesis Group, has announced SecureXchange, the first ASP-based, secure electronic messaging service to address customers' growing needs for confidential, non-repudiated messaging capabilities.

The offering already has its first Australian reseller partner in i-DEX, which will retail secure electronic mail boxes (e-boxes) to companies and individuals, enabling them to exchange sensitive and confidential information electronically via a standard Web browser.

The SecureXchange service, which meets stringent security requirements, combines the sophisticated infrastructure facilities at Fujitsu's highly secure Internet Data Centre with advanced ASP-style secure messaging software from the Sunesis Group. A key differentiator of SecureXchange is non-repudiation: all message activity is logged, thereby providing an undisputed audit trail of message receipt and access.

Client e-boxes and messages are held on a secure central server in Fujitsu's Internet Data Centre with the system providing authentication, encryption, data integrity and audit trails to guarantee the highest levels of security.

"SecureXchange reduces or eliminates the need for organisations to use registered mail, fax or courier services to send legal contracts or other highly sensitive material, with significant cost savings for government bodies and businesses of all sizes, particularly those in the legal and financial sectors," said Terry Carter, Fujitsu's General Manager Marketing.

"The system is easy to use and can be accessed via a standard Web browser with no additional software or hardware requirements. There are no set-up costs and users pay a low monthly subscription to access the service, keeping costs to a minimum."

Mr Carter said Fujitsu had long been aware of the market potential for secure electronic messaging and planned to leverage its 'first to market' advantage to build strong brand awareness.

"We've conservatively projected sign-up of 10,000 e-boxes during the first 12 months of operation, but the potential of this market is such that the numbers could go much higher."

Storme Newton, Commercial Manager of i-DEX, agrees that the potential uptake of the SecureXchange offering is enormous and says i-DEX is delighted to be the first reseller offering the service in Australia.

"The strength of Fujitsu's secure infrastructure, combined with a solution that is so accessible and simple to use, represents a unique offering for the Australian market and one that we believe will be quickly embraced by small and large businesses alike," he said.

"The rapid adoption of the Internet has been driven by demand for instant communications of all kinds of information. The ability to enhance those communications with unprecedented levels of security and data integrity will also find a ready market," Mr Newton said.

The service is housed in Fujitsu's highly secure Internet Data Centre facility with 24-hour patrols, video monitoring, bullet-proof windows and doors, and biometric access control systems. The data centre is acknowledged as one of Australia's most sophisticated facilities with an extensive IT and Telecommunications infrastructure.

Fujitsu expects the ASP-style service to appeal to resellers because of its low cost of entry, rapid implementation and broad market appeal.
