12/19/2002 - NMS Communications (Nasdaq: NMSS), trusted supplier of essential communications products and services to every telecom operator and communications equipment provider on the Global Fortune 50 list, has received ISO 9001:2000 certification, underscoring its commitment to provide the highest-quality products and services to its customers. The certification includes all design and development activities and confirms that NMS has a strong customer focus that is evident in all its operations and processes.
This new version of the ISO quality standard places a greater emphasis on top management involvement in the Quality System. Additionally, the audit for compliance with the standard now examines the extent to which a company's Quality System contains customer-focused elements, including understanding needs, meeting requirements, keeping customers informed, and measuring satisfaction. As this excerpt from the audit summary indicates, NMS customers can be assured that such activities are integral to NMS business and operations:
"NMS Communications does an excellent job of monitoring information relating to customer perception through the use of a comprehensive, 3rd party administered, customer satisfaction survey, the introduction of CustomerFIRST calls, online focus groups (3rd party administered), in-depth phone interviews with key customers, Executive Briefings and an [annual] Awareness and Positioning survey."
An ISO certification represents an industry-recognized level of quality, reducing a company's need to spend time and money auditing suppliers who are ISO-certified. This ISO certification goes beyond that and provides customers with added confidence in their decision to partner with NMS.
"We're justifiably proud of this achievement, which sets us apart from the competition" said Herb Shumway, NMS vice president, Supply Chain Operations. "The commitment to quality and producing customer joy is pervasive throughout the NMS organization — and is a highly visible and significant part of our day-to-day operations."
The ISO 9000 family of standards was initially issued in 1987, and a minor revision was issued in 1994. ISO 9001:2000 is the second revision but contains the first major changes to the standards since their initial issue. The ISO 9001:2000 standard includes five primary clauses and 23 sub-clauses including quality management system; management responsibility; resource management; product realization; and measurement, analysis, and improvement.
