12/19/2002 - Marimba, Inc. (Nasdaq: MRBA), the Software Change-Management Company, announced that Southern Water has selected Marimba's Desktop/Mobile Management products to improve software distribution and to reduce IT administrative costs. Southern Water plans to use Marimba® technology to maintain and automate the distribution of more than 50 applications and to provide valuable software and hardware inventory from a centralized location.
Southern Water provides water supply and wastewater services to nearly two million UK households in Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wright. Automated Desktop and Mobile Management
Marimba's Desktop/Mobile Management products will help to lower deployment costs and maintenance of new and updated applications through byte-level differencing technology. In addition, the distribution of applications to remote sites will be more efficient over Southern Water's existing 64K connection.
"Our open, standards-based architecture will help to ensure the consistent delivery of software to Southern Water's desktop and mobile users," said Adrian Rayner, Marimba's vice president of European operations. "The fact that this can be undertaken in an automated fashion means that administrative time and costs can be substantially reduced."
Marimba's policy-based management provides direct integration with Microsoft's Active Directory for fast and easy access to objects and configuration data. This will help Southern Water reduce the administrative effort required for extensive scripting and eliminate the need for intermediate servers. Also critical to Southern Water is accurate and non-invasive software and hardware inventory. Marimba's Desktop/Mobile Management offerings will enable Southern Water to perform inventory scans and data collection without affecting end users, thereby gaining a much more accurate picture of their application deployment status, as well as software and hardware compliance.
