MontaVista and Xilinx Announce Availability of Embedded Linux Platform for ML300 Development Board for VIRTEX-II PRO

12/17/2002 - Xilinx, Inc., (NASDAQ: XLNX) and MontaVista Software, the company powering the embedded revolution, announced that MontaVistaTM Linux® Professional Edition has been certified for the new Xilinx® Virtex-IITM Pro ML300 development platform. MontaVista is the leading supplier of embedded Linux and had previously ported MontaVista Linux to the Virtex-II Pro FPGA family. The creation of a board support package (BSP) will greatly enhance the ability of Xilinx and MontaVista customers to create Virtex-II Pro FPGA-based embedded applications on this popular operating system.

History of partnering
This announcement represents a continuing partnership between MontaVista and Xilinx. Last July, the two companies announced that MontaVista Linux Professional Edition supports the Xilinx Virtex-II Pro devices. This technology advancement enabled developers of embedded Linux products to target a completely programmable, re-programmable and field-upgradable system platform. The collaboration allows the broad base of Linux developers to accelerate their embedded designs with the ability to reconfigure, enhance and optimize those designs throughout the entire product development life cycle. The integration of the Virtex-II Pro hardware platform with MontaVista Linux, the leading embedded Linux OS and development environment, yields a flexible design environment in which engineers can lower product costs and accelerate their time to market.
