Oak's IPS/PS3 Software Deployed in Okidata's New MICROLINE 18NR Printer

12/16/2002 - Oak Technology, Inc., (Nasdaq: OAKT), a leading provider of embedded solutions for optical storage, digital imaging and digital home entertainment markets, announced that its PostScript 3-compatible language interpreter, IPS/PS3, has been deployed in Okidata's new MICROLINE 18NR monochrome LED printer for workgroups. Okidata - the leading supplier of PostScript printers in Japan - joins a growing list of worldwide printer and multifunction peripheral (MFP) manufacturers in adopting Oak's IPS/PS3 and other print language solutions. The MICROLINE 18NR is the first of several products Okidata plans to introduce in the coming year that feature IPS/PS3.

Today, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are developing printers that meet the increasing demands of the small workgroup market - higher print speeds, network capability and PostScript 3 compatibility. Oak's industry-leading IPS/PS3 interpreter, based on Oak's powerful Integrated Print SystemTM (IPS) software, provides PostScript 3-compatibility for color and monochrome printers and MFPs, as well as enhanced image processing for superior performance, enabling OEMs to develop high-quality peripherals and bring them to market quickly.

"Oak's growing reputation in the Japan market, as well as our position as the market-leading provider of both PostScript and PCL-compatible printing technology make us a great choice for Okidata," said Simon Dolan, senior vice president and general manager, Oak Technology Imaging Group. "Oki's adoption of Oak's IPS/PS3 interpreter provides it with the highest-quality language compatibility as well as a highly efficient and extensive development platform. These advantages will give Okidata a distinct edge in this extremely competitive market."

Okidata's MICROLINE 18NR is the flagship of the 18 Series announced last month. All MICROLINE 18 Series printers feature 18-page-per-minute (ppm) printing at a resolution of 1200 x 600 dots-per-inch (dpi) in a compact size. The MICROLINE 18NR adds built-in 100Base-TX Ethernet and Oak's PostScript 3 emulation. It is targeted at all major operating systems, such as Unix and Linux, as well as Windows and Macintosh, and compatible with research and education environments. These features and performance are available for a list price of only 99,800 and are available in Japan only.
