12/10/2002 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced that its miniature, low power CMOS (complimentary metal oxide semiconductor) imaging solution, consisting of an image sensor and processor, has been incorporated into the Sprint PCS Vision optional camera attachment manufactured by InfoHand Co., Ltd. of Korea. The miniature digital camera can capture, view and instantly send images wirelessly using either the Samsung A500 or Samsung N400 full-color screen PCS phones.
Using Agilent's new miniature CMOS imaging system enabled the design of InfoHand's handset-attachable camera. The digital camera, marketed by Sprint, provides VGA (640 x 480 pixels) color resolution, 2 MB of built-in memory and stores 15 images. It provides a fun, easy way to instantly share experiences with family and friends from anywhere. Sprint PCS recently launched its enhanced nationwide network together with new phones and the InfoHand camera attachment to take advantage of the higher data rates offered.
"Our design team engineered a state-of-the-art miniature phone camera capable of producing very high quality color pictures," said Samuel Chin, president of InfoHand. "Agilent's CMOS imaging technology, high-volume manufacturing and market leadership combined with outstanding quality, service and support made their selection an easy decision for us."
"We are pleased that InfoHand has chosen our CMOS imaging technology for their latest digital camera attachment," said Jason Hartlove, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Sensor Solutions Division. "The optional camera attachment InfoHand created for Sprint is a major step in the evolution of mobile imaging. Imaging is expected to transform the mobile communication experience with applications such as phone-to-phone picture sharing, phone to e-mail/Web picture sharing, video clip sharing, multimedia messaging and eventually phone-to-phone video conferencing."
