12/10/2002 - AudioCodes Ltd. (NASDAQ: AUDC), a leading provider of Voice over Packet (VoP) technologies and systems, announced the availability of its new AC491 High Density Voice over Packet Processor. The new device meets the increasing requirement for higher-density DSP based solutions for Voice over Packet media gateways in wireline, wireless and cable applications.
The AC491, with a density of over 100 channels of G.723.1 and G.729A/B vocoders, features the AudioCodes DSP voice software that has been deployed over millions of channels worldwide since 1996. Other important features include a G.168 2000 compliant (future G.168 2002) Echo Canceller with up to 128 msec echo tail, robust and field proven T.38 fax relay, signaling support, RTP/RTCP Packetization and Media Encryption (AES). A full suite of vocoders and features for wireless and cable applications is also available.
The AC491 is the first in a series of expected releases of the AudioCodes DSP software to be implemented around Texas Instruments' (TI) TMS320C55xTM architecture. The AC491 integrates six C55x cores, on-chip memory and optimized peripherals in a package the size of a dime, enabling equipment designers to substantially increase channel densities in their systems.
"In view of the changing strategies and focus shifting of other high density VoP chip suppliers, the new AC491 demonstrates AudioCodes' continued commitment to deliver cutting edge VoP Processors solutions to its OEM customers," says Shaul Weissman, VoP Processors Marketing Director at AudioCodes. "AudioCodes' commitment to the evolution of this product line, enhanced by the usage of VoP Processors in our module and board products, further assures our value proposition as a long-term, leading and reliable supplier in this marketplace."
The AC491 uses Utopia Level 2 for glueless interface to several Network Processors that are popular in the industry for high density VoP gateway designs. As the AC491 uses no external memory for its full spec operation, its reference design is minimal in terms of both footprint and power. These qualities are critical to OEMs developing high density carrier grade VoP solutions.
The AC491 completes AudioCodes' line of VoP Processors, ranging from a low cost single/dual channel Processor for Client applications, through 4 to 24 channels for Enterprise applications, to over 100 channels for Carrier solutions.
Being a building block for its own module and board products, AudioCodes will share its knowledge of the AC491 with its customers, minimizing development risk, and significantly shortening time-to-market. The AC491 is provided with a reference design that utilizes AudioCodes extensive know-how and expertise in embedded networking solutions.
Availability and Pricing
The AC491 is currently under evaluation with several leading tier-one OEMs. Samples and an evaluation board are currently available, with volume production planned for Q3 2003. It is packaged in a 16x16 mm BGA and priced at $400 per device in OEM volumes of 10,000.
