12/6/2002 - Equator Technologies, a provider of high-performance, programmable and power-efficient system-on-a-chip (SoC) processors for video streaming and image processing applications, announced at Broadband Plus 2002 the debut of its Home Video Conferencing (HVC) Reference Design Kit, featuring Equator's proprietary BSPTM-15 processor and TetraTM Hardware Platform and software from VCON, Inc., a leader in videoconferencing systems that offers high-quality transmission of video, voice and data over IP networks.
This combination of Equator's powerful and flexible VLIW digital media-processing platform and VCON's best-of-breed video conferencing software offers consumer device manufacturers the ability to rapidly expand product functionality with minimal hardware investment. The software developed and optimized by VCON for the Tetra Hardware Platform enables videoconferencing using the ITU protocol H.323 v2, supplying video telephony features and advanced QoS capabilities for the HVC Kit.
Equator's Tetra hardware platform provides the small form factor, I/O options and networking capabilities that easily integrate into any video-centric product space; wired or wireless, handheld or set-top. The all-in-one reference design provides Equator's OEM customers with a low-cost, compact solution for rapid integration of video conferencing functionality in either Cable or IP-based set-top boxes (STBs), enabling features such as video chat. The powerful, programmable and modular nature of the HVC platform replaces multiple ASICs and CPUs, reducing production cost while offering OEMs a reusable platform for multiple applications in the same video-centric device.
"Equator is constantly revisiting and upgrading our product portfolio to support our customers with the industry's most powerful and versatile products," said Rich Christopher, senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing at Equator. "Our Home Video Conferencing Reference Design helps our customers expand product functionality, enabling rapid differentiation using a consistent platform."
Using the new HVC Kit, Equator is demonstrating a digital media communications convergence device combining a TV broadcast with video conferencing picture-in-picture (PIP) at Broadband Plus 2002.
Equator is conducting demonstrations in the CableNET Pavilion at Broadband Plus 2002 in Anaheim during December 4-6.
