11/26/2002 - Motorola Computer Group introduced its fastest Processor PMC module, the PrPMC815. Based on a 700 MHz PowerPC 750FX processor, the PrPMC815 also features an MPC185 security coprocessor. For the first time on a PrPMC module, the variety of encryption capabilities enable network equipment providers to rapidly develop and deploy a range of security applications.
Motorola's PowerPlus III architecture provides lower latency and improved memory bandwidth giving the PrPMC815 significantly better performance over traditional PC-based network security implementations.
"The PrPMC815 is a technology boost that lets equipment manufacturers march up the performance curve with PowerPC CPUs," said Greg Novak, product-marketing manager, Motorola Computer Group. "For the first time, the MPC185 coprocessor resides on a high-speed bus to reduce latency when executing popular encryption algorithms such as Kasumi, DES, 30ES and AES for high-end applications such as 3G wireless and IP Security."
A PrPMC is a small, board-level module with a low-profile processor and memory subsystem that uses an industry standard interface to plug on to an I/O baseboard. With 32MB of Flash memory, up to 512MB on-board memory, Gigabit Ethernet I/O and a 66 MHz PCI bus, the PrPMC815 targets proprietary telecom architectures requiring a performance upgrade.
Pricing and Availability
The PrPMC815 is available now with an estimated US list price starting at $1150 in OEM quantities. Samples of the PrPMC815 with the MPC185 are expected to be available in Q1 of 2003.
About the Processor PMC Family
Motorola's extensive family of Processor PMC modular building blocks features a complete host CPU and memory subsystem with on-board Ethernet and memory expansion on a VITA 32 standard compact form factor. A PrPMC design approach allows customers to design simpler and smaller baseboards and focus their resources on adding value to their products through innovation such as software or custom interfaces. Motorola's PrPMC products can help shorten the design cycle, speed time-to-market and reduce the time and complexity of upgrading, which lowers the total cost of ownership and provides excellent scalability.
