11/26/2002 - IONA, the leading e-Business Platform provider for Web Services Integration, announced that it has been re-elected to the Executive Committee of the Java Community ProcessSM (JCP) Program 2.5. The JCP is an open and inclusive community-based process to develop and revise JavaTM technology specifications, reference implementations and technology compatibility kits in cooperation with the international Java community.
As the leader in Web Services Integration and Service-Oriented e-business infrastructure solutions, IONA is committed to Java technology, the JavaTM 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EETM) platform and the JCP standards process. IONA's Orbix E2A Application Server Platform, delivers J2EE 1.3 compatible technology in combination with CORBA® and XML Web Services to provide customers the industry's most comprehensive and scalable enterprise development, deployment and integration solution. Prior to its first election to the JCP's Executive Committee in 2000, IONA actively served on the JCP interim committee, contributing to several Java Specification Requests (JSRs).
The flexibility, interoperability, high-performance, and ROI that IONA customers enjoy are a product of the company's ongoing commitment to open standards. For almost a decade, IONA has been actively involved in standards bodies such as the Object Management Group (OMG) and more recently, the Java Community Process (JCP), World Wide Consortium (W3C), Web Services Interoperability (WS-I) Organization, SOAPBuilders Forum, and OASIS.
"Our re-election to the Executive Committee of the JCP will allow us to continue our work with fellow e-business leaders to shape and protect the future and interoperability of the Java platform," said Patrick O'Brien, vice president of corporate strategy at IONA. "The Java Platform and J2EE are at the foundation of many of today's IT departments, but do not represent an organizations entire inventory of IT assets. IONA's mission continues to be about creating opportunity for our customers through integration, and we will approach the next 3 years with those customers interest top of mind. We will work to ensure greater openness of the Java Platform and its compatibility with other core enterprise technologies such as XML Web Services and CORBA."
"We are pleased to see IONA re-elected on the JCP EC," said Rob Gingell, Chair, Java Community Process. "Java technology innovation happens in the JCP and Java community members like IONA are driving it. Currently contributing to the development of over 20 Java specifications, IONA will be serving for another three years on the JCP EC side by side with the other 15 JCP SE/EE Executive Committee members and as part of a thriving community dedicated to the development of Java standards-based technologies."
