Fujitsu Siemens Computers Demonstrates the Virtues of Server Consolidation and Secure Wireless Access to Business Critical Computing Data and Applications

11/20/2002 - The people responsible for IT in midsize and large companies currently find themselves facing two main challenges: on the one hand they need to get on top of the unabated growth in the server environment that has been allowed to spread without check in recent years, and, on the other, more and more departments see a need for their employees to have access to corporate data and applications using mobile devices. Fujitsu Siemens Computers will be presenting solutions to these challenges based on Microsoft platforms at the Microsoft IT Forum 2002 Europe held in Copenhagen from 19 - 22 November 2002.

In response to the uncontrolled growth in server landscapes, Fujitsu Siemens Computers recommends an IT consolidation solution with PRIMERGY high-end and PRIMERGY blade servers. Consolidation is also an important storage issue, because many data centers are seeing their data volumes double at increasingly rapid rates. E.g. the virtual tape appliance CentricStor from Fujitsu Siemens Computers is based on an open solution and reduces the cost of backup and archiving remarkably. Exhibits from Siemens Business Services and Fujitsu Services will focus on services dedicated to the subjects of IT infrastructure, enterprise management and Exchange Managed Services, while the partner company Network Appliance will be presenting its Unified Exchange solutions.

The mobile access scenarios are geared to the Pocket LOOX PDA and the Tablet PC Stylistic 4000. Other exhibits demonstrate roaming scenarios for mobile devices derived from the openSEAS software suite from Fujitsu Siemens Computers and the Connect2Air solution designed to enable the setting up of secure wireless LAN connections.

Dr. Joseph Reger, Chief Technology Officer at Fujitsu Siemens Computers, emphasizes: "Mobile access to Business Critical Computing applications using wireless connections is subject to particularly stringent security requirements. The exhibits on show at the IT Forum demonstrate that we, and our partners, can offer our customers absolutely secure solutions. Our own wireless LAN implementation in our Augsburg plant is a good example of a secure and reliable installation."
