AMD Plans to Use Compuware SoftICE64 for Developing and Debugging Software on Upcoming AMD Opteron and AMD Athlon Processors Based on Hammer Technology

11/20/2002 - Compuware announced that it has entered into a technology agreement with AMD to add x86-64 support to Compuware SoftICE64. Compuware will provide the global supplier of integrated circuits with SoftICE64 to debug 64-bit device drivers. This agreement enables developers to more rapidly build software targeted for upcoming AMD Opteron and AMD Athlon processors, based on Hammer technology.

SoftICE, part of the Compuware DriverStudio product family, enables developers to accelerate the development and debugging of Windows device drivers. As part of this collaboration, Compuware will accelerate the development of its SoftICE64 technology to include support for AMD’s 64-bit platform. The rapid development of peripheral devices will accelerate the adoption of this new 64-bit technology.

“With SoftICE64, Compuware will help AMD deliver the tools companies need to quickly and easily develop device drivers for the upcoming AMD 64-bit platform,” said Ed Gasiorowski, director of developer relations for AMD’s Computation Products Group. “Our customers will be able to quickly take advantage of upcoming AMD Opteron and AMD Athlon processors with Hammer technology, which optimizes 32-bit performance of existing applications, while allowing customers to migrate to 64-bit computing.”

In addition, AMD plans to employ Compuware DriverStudio for internal use by its driver developers. The DriverStudio suite helps developers produce reliable, well-tuned drivers that meet stringent quality standards and tight hardware release schedules. DriverStudio accelerates driver development through powerful features that extend beyond the limitations of the traditional driver development tools. The unique system-wide views and controls of DriverStudio make it easy to debug complex software problems in a Windows environment.

“Providing this advanced SoftICE64 support will help AMD accelerate the adoption of its technology,” said Don Morrison, Vice President, Channels and Alliances, Compuware. “This development effort also will provide our joint customers and partners with the capabilities and support required to rapidly implement 64-bit solutions.
