11/19/2002 - PLX Technology, a leading supplier of high-speed interconnect silicon to the communications industry, and Avvida Systems, a leading developer of image-processing hardware and software, announced that the PLX® PCI 9656 I/O Accelerator device is providing Avvida's recently announced Tsunami imaging system with a 66MHz PCI bus interface, enabling the board to achieve 266MB/s PCI throughput. Additionally, the two companies announced that PLX software development tools helped Avvida save significant time in developing Microsoft® Windows® drivers for the Tsunami system, accelerating the board's time to market.
Taking advantage of the PCI 9656's 66MHz PCI interface, Tsunami is Avvida's fastest image-processing board, designed for industrial and medical imaging, video broadcast, high-speed data compression and military applications. The scalable Tsunami architecture offers over 3 Gigabyte per second I/O bandwidth, 1 Gigabyte on board memory resources and flexible I/O mezzanine card.

66MHz PCI for 32-bit Local Bus Designs
The PCI 9656 serves designs that demand maximum PCI bandwidth without incurring the expense or effort of implementing 64-bit peripherals on the local bus. To provide designers with maximum design flexibility, the PCI 9656 supports three optional 32-bit, 66MHz local bus interfaces selectable with a strapping option. One mode supports Motorola's industry-leading MPC 850/860 PowerQUICC® communication processor and other PowerPC 801-compliant devices. The other two modes are generic 32-bit interfaces -- one with multiplexed address and data buses, the other de-multiplexed. These generic interfaces have been embraced by the industry as de facto standards for a wide variety of devices including processors, memory, DSPs, custom ASICs, and FPGAs.
