11/19/2002 - Multi-Tech Systems, a leading data communications and telecommunications company based in suburban Minneapolis, introduces the MultiModemII external desktop modem which completes the company’s V.92 family. The new modem comes in an industrial cabinet with an LCD panel for easy configuration and diagnostics, supports the ITU V.92 56K bps performance and V.44 compression standards, and features a wide range of legacy features still important to enterprise customers. It is also one of Multi-Tech’s global modems approved for worldwide use. For multi-national enterprise users this means one SKU (stock keeping unit) can ship virtually anywhere in the world. The MultiModemII MT5600BA-V92 is currently shipping and has an MSRP of US$259.00.
“This Multi-Tech corporate level V.92 modem has a number of features still important to business users,” states Chip Harleman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. “It has a wide range of features like synchronous and asynchronous operation, two-wire dial-up and leased line support, four-wire leased line capability, remote configuration and control, plus callback security operation. While these traditional capabilities are still needed by legacy applications, our customers also wanted V.92 support in this level of modem. And, they wanted it in a product that can be used worldwide. By adding V.92 to the MultiModemII line we have added a top end to the line and provided a single model modem that multinational companies can ship around the world.”
The new MultiModemII-V92 (Model MT5600BA-V92) corporate modem provides V.92 data plus Class 1 14.4K bps fax support. It includes an LCD panel for configuration and diagnostics. It supports asynchronous/synchronous operation, dial-up and two-wire leased lines, four-wire leased line, remote configuration, callback security, remote modem control, U.S. caller ID, four phone number storage for DTR dialing, DTMF tone detection, and AS/400 feature support. In V.92 mode, its download speeds are at up to 56K bps and upload speeds at up to 48K bps when connecting to with a V.92 server. It includes a ‘Modem-on-Hold’ application for Windows 98, NT, 2000, XP and Me, which enables the reception of phone calls without dropping an active Internet connection, and its V.44 compression improves throughput rates. This modem is approved for use in many countries around the world, which means one model for worldwide deployment.
