Multi-Tech Systems Shipping New Low Cost External DID Fax Modem with V.34 (33.6K bps) Support

11/19/2002 - Multi-Tech Systems, a leading data communications and telecommunications company based in suburban Minneapolis, is now shipping an external desktop send and receive fax modem that combines DID versatility and V.34 fax performance. In addition to supporting DID and “Super G3” ITU V.34 standard fax communications, it also provides two dimensional compression, real time fax compression conversion, T.31 Annex B Class 1.0 and T.32 Annex C Class 2.1 fax commands, and ECM (Error Correction Mode). The MultiModemDID model MT5634ZBA-DID external desktop modem is shipping now and has an MSRP of US$699.00.

“Fax is a necessary part of doing business everywhere in the world, but using computer-based fax technologies by small- to medium-sized companies has been very expensive,” says Chip Harleman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. “This new Multi-Tech hardware brings a new level of cost efficiency to network faxing, because organizations can set up a fax server with only one modem, using Direct Inward Dialing (DID) for routing, and expand as needed. Its V.34 performance and compression support makes this modem an efficient performer and its multitude of features makes it fit any computational environment. This new product combines the necessary features for virtually any size enterprise to start taking advantage of the convenience and cost savings associated with super G3 faxing and two-dimensional compression, while enriching the process by enabling the necessary routing and convenience capabilities available through this modem’s DID capabilities.”

The new MultiModem DID model MT5634ZBA-DID external desktop modem is important because, existing networking fax options are typically available in only expensive internal modem cards which have to be incorporated into PC-based servers running fax networking software. The new Multi-Tech DID fax modem offers external connectivity for an inexpensive option that can be attached to a serial port on any equipped computer. By connecting the Multi-Tech external DID fax modem to a fax server on a network, anyone connected to that network can receive incoming faxes directly to their desktop routed by their fax extensions. Performance enhancing capabilities include V.34 fax communications plus MP and MMR compression support. (Note: Fax compression allows for the use and conversion of the commonly used MH - Modified Huffman, plus MR -Modified READ- and MMR -Modified-Modified READ- which are one dimensional, mixed one and two dimensional, and all dimensional compression respectively.) Since new fax machines support all of these compression techniques, this new modem provides the best compatibility and performance regardless of the fax source.
