11/14/2002 - SanDisk, the world's largest manufacturer of flash storage cards, announced that its Industrial Grade line of flash memory cards are being used in an increasingly broad range of applications requiring extreme endurance, reliability and data integrity. The announcement was made at the Electronica 2002 trade show where SanDisk is demonstrating products in Hall A4, booth 243.
Flash memory cards, widely used in portable devices, are becoming an essential component in telecommunications, networking, automotive, aviation, and military applications, as systems designers discover new uses for the durable, solid-state cards.
Driving customer adoption of the new Industrial Grade products are several factors: the inherent ruggedness and durability of this product line, increasing capacities as high as two gigabytes per card, industry-leading specifications of the industrial strength flash and the discovery by product designers that Industrial Grade offers significant advantages over standard flash memory when used in environments with extreme temperatures, shock and vibration.
"Since its recent launch, the SanDisk Industrial Grade Flash product line has generated a lot of excitement and momentum as a great storage solution for a wide variety of mission critical industrial applications," said Bo Ericsson, vice president of OEM Marketing at SanDisk. "We are very pleased to see that a growing number of product designers who need the utmost in reliability, durability and data integrity under harsh conditions are relying on SanDisk's Industrial Grade products."
The SanDisk Industrial Grade line includes CompactFlash® cards, PC Cards and 2.5-inch FlashDrives, and are specifically designed to provide extended product life, enhanced error-free usage, lower total cost of ownership and significant improvements in read and write operations within a wide range of applications including those that require a high level of small random file access.
SanDisk Industrial Grade products offer a number of features for extreme endurance, increased reliability and enhanced performance that include:
Due to their high reliability and extended durability, SanDisk Industrial Grade products are well suited for embedded, remote and mission-critical applications. Some of these include:
Telecommunications and Networking
Within the telecommunications and networking infrastructure, routers, switches and base stations, are common applications for the SanDisk Industrial Grade product line. Small but frequent file transfers and random access are typical. The Industrial Grade storage cards offer advanced features that include enhanced error correction capability and a 2 million program and erase cycle endurance per block guarantee.
The ability to withstand a tremendous level of G-forces, wide temperature ranges as well as shock and vibration is an important requirement for the military, which is using the SanDisk Industrial Grade CompactFlash cards in a number of applications including hand held computers, field radios and jet fighter planes. The Industrial Grade cards are reinforced with RTV silicon for protection against shock, vibration and up to 3000-G operating shock.
Industrial Grade product line is used in ticketing machines where critical billing data is stored on the cards. With a 3,000,000 hour MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) and enhanced error correction, the Industrial Grade product line minimizes the loss of even a single bit of data so that errors and data corruption are kept at an absolute minimum.
SanDisk Industrial Grade products are available in several form factors including CompactFlash, PC Cards (PCMCIA) and Flash Drives with capacities ranging from 16-512 megabytes (MB), 16MB- 2 gigabytes (GB) and 32MB-2GB respectively. Suggested OEM pricing is $320 for a 512MB CompactFlash and $795 for a 1GB PC Card and 2.5-inch FlashDrive.
SanDisk, the world's largest supplier of flash data storage products, designs, manufactures and markets industry-standard, solid-state data, digital imaging and audio storage products using its patented, high density flash memory and controller technology. SanDisk is based in Sunnyvale, CA.
