Symbol Technologies Aligns With Avnet Applied Computing to Offer Symbol Business Partners Expanded Logistics and Services

11/14/2002 - Symbol Technologies, a global leader in mobile data transaction systems, announced that it has aligned with Avnet Applied Computing to offer select Symbol Business Partners expanded logistics, financial and professional services through a program called AccessPlus.

AccessPlus participants will continue to receive the one-to-one relationship and strategic development they currently receive from Symbol, along with the same pricing and terms. However, Symbol will now leverage Avnet Applied Computing's global logistics expertise to fulfill the orders and manage and forecast inventory. In addition, AccessPlus customers have the ability to take advantage of Avnet Applied Computing's strong financial and technical services to help grow their business and beat their competitors to market.

"As the marketplace becomes more crowded, every company has to find a competitive differentiator, which for many companies is customer service. This is much easier to talk about than it is to deliver," said Tim Ray, chief operating officer of Vytek, a leading global provider of wireless and mobile computing solutions and a Symbol customer since Vytek's inception. "What excites me about AccessPlus is that Symbol and Avnet Applied Computing are committed to delivering the kind of customer service we need to in turn provide superior customer service to our end customer. This service goes from technical support, to aggressive pricing, to financial cash management tools that expand an already successful program."

"Although we've certainly been pleased with our relationship with Symbol, we're also excited about the additional opportunities and advantages that Avnet's capabilities bring," said John Sehnert, vice president of Marketing for OMI International, Inc., Dallas, Texas, a leading provider of integrated supply chain applications for wholesalers and retailers and also a Symbol customer. "The AccessPlus program improves our ability to resell Symbol products by adding Avnet's logistics, financial and professional services as another part of the benefits that OMI extends to our clients."

"Partnering with Avnet Applied Computing through AccessPlus will be a tremendous benefit for those select Business Partners who participate," said Stan Jaworski, vice president and general manager, Channels and Alliances, Symbol Technologies. "They get the same direct connection with Symbol, enhanced by the logistics backbone and technical and financial expertise that Avnet brings to the table."

"Avnet Applied Computing is dedicated to helping our customers get to market better, faster and at less cost than they can alone, and we're pleased to extend the broad array of services we've developed for Symbol's Business Partners through AccessPlus," said Ed Kamins, president of Avnet Applied Computing. "In addition, we'll be looking to leverage the products and capabilities that Symbol offers as one of our strategic suppliers to develop new opportunities in the wireless, mobile and point-of-sale markets."
