11/13/2002 - Compuware introduced DevPartner Java Edition 3.0, a suite of software development productivity tools that speeds the delivery of reliable, high-performance Java applications and components. Accessed through an easy-to-use web browser interface, DevPartner Java Edition uses powerful analysis and profiling techniques to help Java developers understand how their code performs before an application is deployed. This helps companies decrease time-to-market, reduce development costs and increase developer productivity, ensuring the development of high-quality Java applications.
DevPartner Java Edition is web and Java architected from the ground up, providing improved usability and increased understanding for Java developers. Recognizing that no two developers approach Java development the same way, the suite was designed to meet each developerís needs and expertise through a new customized web browser interface, reducing the time spent to resolve problems and tune applications. The browser will suit any organizationís development needs because it can be installed and used anywhere, allowing development teams access to development and test machines across secure internal LANS/WANS, at home or on the road.
"Compuware DevPartner Java Edition 3.0 saved our development team valuable development time in profiling and performance tuning our web application, which is critical with the short development cycle of many web applications these days," said Daniel Einspanjer, Software Engineer at ChoiceStream. "Even with our non-standard development environment, DevPartner Java Edition 3.0 was easy to set up. It has a crisp clean UI and its distributed front-end enables us to monitor and analyze our tests in real-time right from our desktop, making testing and debugging quick and easy."
Real-time memory analysis is introduced in DevPartner Java Edition 3.0. The memory analyzer automatically locates memory-intensive methods in Java code and visually provides real-time memory analysis and debugging capabilities. With an accurate, detailed view of a Java programís memory usage and live memory analysis, developers can improve the run-time performance and resource utilization of their code by optimizing objects that consume or waste the most memory. The memory analyzer saves valuable development time by helping developers quickly locate inefficient code that would otherwise take hours or days to find manually. DevPartner Java Edition provides the unique ability to view results in the browser, letting developers drill down further into the analysis--all in real-time.
"In a recovering economy, reduced development costs, increased developer productivity and quicker time-to-market are the main focus of IT departments across all industries," said Rikki Kirzner, Research Director for Application Development at IDC, a leading provider of global IT research and advice. "Leveraging and expanding the skills and knowledge of developers are important to corporations because they reduce the need for specialists and help improve productivity while empowering developers to effectively handle more design and development tasks. Acquiring versatile tools that can speed design to development to deployment tasks helps control costs and increase ROI."
With DevPartner Java Edition 3.0, developers are no longer limited to analyzing and debugging a single-tier or machine when tuning and testing Java applications. Using the browser interface, developers can gather run-time information from any number of licensed clients and servers and see the results in a single view. Developers can analyze performance and coverage data on Java servlets, applets, JavaBeans and Enterprise JavaBeans. The collected information can then be viewed and analyzed on a workstation, providing an end-to-end view of distributed application components. Reports and views are always available through the easy-to-use web browser interface, which requires no local installation or Java expertise.
"Developing and deploying reliable applications is a key factor in the success or failure of an organizationís e-business initiatives," said Shari Zedeck, Director of Product Management for the Compuware DevPartner and DriverStudio product families. "DevPartner Java Edition gives developers the productivity tools they need to build and deliver high-quality Java applications faster, allowing development teams to quickly prioritize and focus on solving the complexity, quality and performance problems associated with Java development."
DevPartner Java Edition integrates with IDEs and application servers from IBM, Borland, Oracle and TogetherSoft. Additionally, DevPartner Java Edition also supports Compuware OptimalJ test environments, which include TomCat, JOnAS and JBoss.
DevPartner Java Edition 3.0 will be generally available on November 13th at a U.S. price of $1,495 per seat. Concurrent user and server licensing are optional with version 3.0. Volume discounts are available.
