Adaptec Introduces Easy-to-Use Wireless Networking Products for Small Office/Home Office

11/12/2002 - Wireless networking for small office/home office (SOHO) consumers just got easier, thanks to a new suite of products introduced by Adaptec, a leading supplier of desktop PC solutions for connectivity, storage and multimedia.

The Adaptec UltraWireless family of products provides home office and small business computer users an easy way to share high-speed cable/DSL Internet connections and network their PCs. The five new products combine industry standard 802.11b technology with Adaptec's proven ability to make complex technologies simpler and easier for consumers to use. Gartner Dataquest is forecasting that one-third of all professional portable PCs in use will be equipped with a wireless LAN adapter by 2005.1

"Adaptec UltraWireless solutions make home networking simple, with wizards that guide users through a quick installation process, plug-and-play components, and informative, user-friendly product guides," said Jeff Loebbaka, vice president and general manager of Adaptec's Desktop Storage Group.

The Adaptec UltraWireless family of products delivers everything consumers need to set up a wireless LAN, whether connecting via PC or laptop computer:

  • The Adaptec UltraWireless Cable/DSL Router ($149.99 MSRP) is a self-contained wireless local area network in a box. The product includes a fully integrated wireless access point, router and four-port switch, providing a one-step solution for networking wireless devices and sharing home broadband connections at a speed of 11 Mbps.
  • The Adaptec UltraWireless Access Point Kit ($129.99 MSRP) serves as a hub for wireless traffic, enabling wireless devices to connect to an existing "wired" network. Each access point is equipped with a high-range antenna and 64/128-bit encryption, MAC address filtering and password protection to provide high levels of security.
  • The Adaptec UltraWireless PC Card Kit ($69.99 MSRP) allows notebook computers to connect to the wireless network. The card allows direct peer-to-peer communication and access to shared network resources.
  • The Adaptec UltraWireless PCI Kit ($99.99 MSRP) lets users connect PCs to the wireless network through a PCI card installed inside the computer.
  • The Adaptec UltraWireless USB Kit ($79.99 MSRP) provides a wireless connection through a PC or laptop computer's USB port.
