Elektromed Selects Programmable System on Chip (PSoC) Technology From Cypress MicroSystems for Electronic Metering Systems

11/7/2002 - Cypress MicroSystems announced that Elektromed has selected Cypress MicroSystems’ Programmable System on ChipTM (PSoCTM) technology to add advanced capabilities and lower development costs of its electronic metering systems. PSoC products are based on a configurable mixed-signal array with an on-board controller, providing embedded designers with a low-cost, single-chip solution for a variety of consumer, industrial and control applications.

With a wide range of offerings, Elektromed is the world’s largest supplier of electronic metering devices that monitor gas, water and electricity usage. As an increasing number of European municipalities deploy pre-paid utility systems to reduce administrative overhead and prevent overdue bills, Elektromed is the first company to offer four types of pre-paid electronic meters as an alternative to traditional mechanical meters. Each of these meters can be combined into a single, integrated pre-paid system. Today, Elektromed has deployed 650,000 pre-paid gas meters and 100,000 electricity meters equipped with optical ports.
