11/6/2002 - SBE, a leading supplier of high performance OEM communications solutions to the Internet, wireless and wireline industries, announced that it has been chosen to supply its widely used T1/E1 PMC (PCI mezzanine card) adapter for use on a proprietary design line interface blade in an OEM manufactured switch/router. The annual revenue for this opportunity meets SBE's Design Win criteria and is expected to result in $700,000 in production quantities next year.
The wanPMC-C4T1E1 is a four port channelized T1/E1/J1 serial adapter, based on the industry standard PMC interface, and is currently deployed in routers, gateways, and switches that require an onboard CSU/DSU connection directly to a Class-5 telecom switch. For SBE's newest OEM customer, this standard interface adds high-speed connectivity to a custom bus architecture, saves their in-house development expense and provides four times the port density in record time. Scalability is achieved by selecting the appropriate enclosure package for the end-user application. Choices of rack-mount systems include 10 line cards, 4 line cards, or a single line card stand-alone blade.
"Custom bus architectures offer performance advantages over the common PCI platforms used in high-speed networking. However in today's budget sensitive marketplace, the adoption of standards-based PMC I/O adapters provides a short-cut to interface flexibility," said Dan Grey, senior vice president of sales and marketing for SBE. "The performance and versatility of SBE's standards-based embedded technology enables our customers to get their products to market with a significant reduction in development time," Grey concluded.
