Parasoft Releases C++Test 2.1

11/6/2002 - Parasoft, leading provider of Automated Error Prevention software, announced the release of C++Test 2.1, an automated unit testing tool for C and C++ applications. The new upgrade introduces many new features designed to both enhance and simplify the unit testing process.

Unit testing is the most efficient way to detect errors during the early stages of development when they are easier and cheaper to correct. Software quality is a big issue today and many users are discouraged from trusting software products because of a continued lack of quality. A recent InformationWeek article by Mary Hayes, states that software users will "no longer bear all the quality risk in a major software project. In the short term, such demands may increase costs for an already-beleaguered software industry. Vendors that survive will be those that prove they can build in quality from the start." Parasoft C++Test helps developers build quality in software from the start by automating the key error prevention practice of unit testing.

Through automation, C++Test makes unit testing feasible for the most time-starved developers, and affords greater precision and accuracy than manual unit testing. Using C++Test translates to higher quality applications, less development time, and reduced development, support, and maintenance costs.

Many enhancements were made to increase C++Test’s ease of use and efficiency, including a more intuitive and user-friendly GUI with integrated static analysis rule descriptions, redesigned tool bars, new tab panels, and improved menu options. Other new features include:

  • Improved integration with Microsoft® Visual C++® 6.0 Integrated Development Environment (IDE)
  • Support for the Microsoft® .NET® Integrated Development Environment (IDE) Note: Only unmanaged code is supported
  • Enhanced test coverage metrics
  • New Confidence Metrics ("Statistics")
  • Support for environment variables
  • Enhanced import and export of test cases and test objects
  • Advanced development and managerial analysis tools
  • Improved Static Analysis testing
  • Support for two distributions of the GCC compiler for Windows, CygwinTM GCC 2.95.x and MingwTM GCC 2.95.x
  • Support for the GCC 2.95.x compiler for Linux and Solaris 7, 8, 9
