11/4/2002 - ARTiSAN Software Tools, a global leader for UML-based, real-time systems and software modeling tools, announced that Diehl AKO, Europe's leading provider of electronic controls for white goods (washing machines, driers, and dishwasher) has selected ARTiSAN's Real-time Studio Professional as its standard tool for systems and software development.
"We have been using Real-time Studio for over a year with great success," acknowledged Bernd Theobold, Team Leader R&D Electronics at Diehl AKO. "We've found that standardizing on Real-time Studio at our different locations forces the reuse of designs and enhances the knowledge exchanged between users. After the successful completion of several software projects in our first year with the tool, the benefits of using Real-time Studio were readily apparent: shortened project duration, less rework, increased software reuse, fewer design errors (which were brought to light earlier in the project), etc. The tool is also extremely intuitive for both newcomers as well as experienced users of other tools, and we continue to be very impressed with its wealth of diagrams, especially the systems architecture diagram. It's interesting to note that on a recent dishwasher software project, RtS helped us to solve a critical design problem, despite only a few team members being knowledgeable of the intricacies of dishwasher software design. By the end of the project all team members had a very clear understanding of dishwasher software design and were able to support each other, so the collaborative capabilities of the tool facilitated not only the successful completion of the project, but also served as an excellent vehicle for mentoring and sharing expertise within our company – an unexpected and very cost-effective benefit which will pay dividends for years to come."
"UML based design for real-time embedded systems is often thought to be an expensive development luxury, aimed at safety-critical applications such as those in defense & aerospace, or for very complex applications such as those in mobile communications for example," said Jeremy Goulding, President and CEO of ARTiSAN. "That Diehl AKO can demonstrate such a significant return on their investment for the development of everyday consumer goods is testament to the affordability of Real-time Studio. This shows its value across a range of industries, making it a real productivity multiplier for both traditional users with large development teams, and to newer companies with much smaller development teams who are leveraging the pervasive nature of embedded computing, often developing products where users are completely unaware of the complex functionality in that product."
