11/1/2002 - Computer Access Technology (CATC), a leading provider of advanced verification systems and connectivity products for communications protocols, announced availability of SATracer v1.5. With this release, SATracer is the first protocol analyzer available to support Serial ATA II: Extensions to Serial ATA 1.0.
The Extensions to the Serial ATA 1.0 spec adds data-handling intelligence to Serial ATA applications in the entry-level server and networked storage markets. With the ratification of Serial ATA II: Extensions to Serial ATA 1.0 this month, vendors have already begun using SATracer v1.5 to verify compliance and operation of devices that utilize these new commands.
"The Serial ATA II specification provides key capabilities for OEMs seeking better price/performance storage alternatives for entry-level servers and networked storage. CATC's early support of command decoding is an important enabler for developers leading this effort", said Jason Ziller, Intel technology initiatives manager and Serial ATA Working Group chairman.
"Not only does the SATracer protocol analyzer system make it easy to trigger and display the new SATA-II commands," said Mike Micheletti, senior product marketing manager at CATC, "this release adds a variety of new performance metrics to help developers understand and optimize throughput of systems using Serial ATA."
The Serial ATA II: Extension to Serial ATA 1.0 specification is expected to accelerate industry adoption of Serial ATA devices in the server and storage network markets. It is primarily focused on improving system performance and reliability through:
