10/30/2002 - Peerless Systems, a provider of imaging and networking solutions, announced that Peerless has enhanced a previous design for a high-performance monochrome printer controller for Ricoh Corporation’s new lower cost Aficio 1055 multifunction (MFP) monochrome copier. The updated controller is based upon an existing Peerless design, which is still being shipped by Ricoh, thus reducing its development time and cost.
Peerless has a long history of providing advanced imaging solutions to Ricoh for office printers and digital copiers/printers. The controller for the Aficio 1055 is similar to one used in the Aficio 551 and 700 and uses PeerlessPage imaging that runs on a PowerPC 740 CPU with a Peerless QuickPrint QP1910 graphics coprocessor. The controller supports both PeerlessPrint5e and 6 PCL emulation and genuine Adobe PostScript3. The Ricoh Aficio 1055 MFP was announced on October 25, 2002 and is available now.
"In working closely with Peerless for many years, we have been able again to leverage their flexible technology across all Ricoh brands for a more affordable, higher performing MFPs in our new price-reduced model," said Mr. Yoshio Maniwa, manager product planning, Printer and System Business Division, Ricoh Corporation. "Peerless’ turnkey product definitely helped speed the Aficio 1055 to market much faster."
"The updated controller for Ricoh is a testimony to the flexibility of Peerless’ embedded technology. This flexibility has provided a simple, cost-effective and scalable solution", said Steve Robinson, vice president marketing, Peerless Systems. "Since 1995, Peerless has partnered with Ricoh on 11 major models of Aficio MFP copiers and printers for worldwide release. We are pleased that this architecture can once again be enhanced to extend the life of these products."
