10/30/2002 - SoftekTM, a leading provider of storage management software, announced that AdvanceMed, a leading e-health decision support company, has realized an immediate and significant return on investment from implementing Softekís enterprise storage resource management solution, SoftekTM Storage Manager. From a single, central location, the Softek software helped AdvanceMed align its storage strategy with its business goals, and in the process, reclaim more than half a terabyte of storage space.
Reliable data access and storage is a key requirement of AdvanceMedís decision support software for healthcare payers and providers. As its business expands, the company expects its customersí storage requirements to skyrocket by more than 500 percent within the next two years. This established the need for AdvanceMed to institute automated policies to ensure the performance and availability of mission-critical applications within an increasingly complex and expanding storage infrastructure.
"With data volumes exploding in the healthcare industry, my team needed to manage more storage capacity without a corresponding increase in resources," said Ken Hutchins, Director of Technical Services for AdvanceMed. "In less than 10 minutes of implementation, Storage Manager identified 100GB of under-utilized storage assets located in 19 servers, and in 90 minutes reclaimed more than half a terabyte of data. Reclaiming this huge amount of storage also enabled us to defer purchases of additional storage hardware."
Softek Storage Manager provides AdvanceMed with single-console viewing of its storage resources within a multi-vendor storage environment and issues automatic alerts and actions when a file is growing too big, or when disk utilization exceeds a certain threshold. This centralized, automated management helps reduce costs for the company while increasing the availability of business applications that rely on storage resources. In addition, AdvanceMed was able to forecast growth of its storage resources for automated capacity planning.
"AdvanceMedís achievements in realizing a better return on their existing storage assets reinforce the Softek value proposition for managing storage within heterogeneous, multi-vendor environments," said Steven Murphy, president and CEO at Softek. "We are pleased to have helped them strategically utilize our storage resource management technology so that their customers can be better served, both now and in the future."
AdvanceMed, a leading provider of e-health and clinical health care delivery solutions, is located in Reston, Virginia.
