10/29/2002 - IDTTM (Integrated Device Technology), a leading communications IC company, announced that it has expanded its portfolio of CODEC devices with the addition of a fully-integrated 3.3-volt quad CODEC and ringing SLIC chip set. As the company’s first complete analog line-card solution, these devices provide a four-channel function for analog line termination, supervision, filtering and pulse code modulation (PCM) encoding of POTS subscriber lines, making them ideal for VoX systems in small-to-medium-sized enterprises and customer premises equipment (CPE).
The IDT CODEC/SLIC chip set offers a glue-less interface between the CODEC and SLIC devices, minimizing the need for external components, resulting in conservation of board space and a reduction in overall system costs. The chip set’s innovatively designed architecture is extremely flexible and allows for maximum programmability and testability to meet various country and market standards. Its integrated test and diagnostic function, targeted specifically for integrated access devices (IADs), SOHO/residential gateways, and PBX/IP-PBX applications, reduces component requirements and allows for line diagnostics and monitoring without the need for external test equipment. This chip set also offers low power consumption and a voltage supply that matches other modern semiconductor components needed for these applications. Additional functionality includes programmable DC loop feed, FSK generation, three-party conferencing and fully programmable gain, impedance matching, frequency response and transhybrid balance filters.
"The introduction of our CODEC/SLIC chip set is an important milestone for the IDT telecom product family," said Sean Fan, director of strategic marketing for IDT telecommunications products. "The addition of these products further demonstrates our expertise in mixed-signal design, and expands our portfolio of voice CODEC devices. By offering a complete line-card solution, with a rich feature set and supporting 3.3 voltages, we have strengthened our position in the voice-over-broadband market for the home and enterprise."
In addition to the launch of the CODEC/SLIC chip set, IDT has begun sampling the 82V1054 and 82V1068 CODEC products. These devices are 3.3-volt versions of its existing quad and octal programmable devices with enhanced features, designed to provide a pin-compatible migration path from the current 5-volt solutions. These products will further broaden the IDT industry-leading CODEC portfolio to include multiple options for voltage, programmability and density. IDT also intends to introduce two new devices in its transport family of products before the end of this year.
