10/29/2002 - Agilent Technologies introduced Agilent OSS Fulfillment-Optical, a flow-through provisioning solution that helps service providers dramatically reduce the cost and time of delivering optical services, increase customer satisfaction, and quickly maximize revenues from the enormous amount of underutilized assets in today's backbone networks.
Agilent OSS Fulfillment-Optical is a family of pre-integrated workflow, inventory and network activation components that manage the overall provisioning process. It seamlessly interacts with all network technologies — legacy, next-generation, wireless and wireline — and easily communicates with other operational support systems such as service assurance, trouble-ticketing, troubleshooting, customer care, and billing. It is modular so that service providers can deploy separate components to meet their specific needs.
"To unlock the huge potential of optical networks, service providers have an acute need for a comprehensive automated OSS fulfillment solution that enables rapid service activation, reduces errors and accelerates return on investments," said Giorgio Dina, vice president and general manager of Agilent's OSS Business Unit. "Agilent OSS Fulfillment-Optical not only automates service provisioning tasks, but does so in an integrated manner that enables end-to-end service delivery."
"Provisioning of complex optical services involves many manual steps and frequent errors, resulting in high operational expenses for service providers," said Larry Goldman, OSS Program Director at RHK, a telecom market research firm. "Workflow management, more accurate inventory and automated activation are key capabilities service providers need to lower these costs. Agilent OSS Fulfillment-Optical provides the types of automation that help address this issue by lowering the cost of service delivery."
Agilent OSS Fulfillment-Optical contains a wide range of optical-specific features and capabilities that deliver services on optical networks that include SONET, SDH and TDM type network elements. Services include private leased lines from DS1 (1,544 Mbps) and intra-service provider facility links up to OC-192 (10,000 Mbps). The solution consists of three components:
Although tailored to the optical industry, the solution is extremely flexible so it can provision services on other types of wireline and wireless networks.
