Siebel, Sun Extend Global Strategic Alliance

10/24/2002 - Sun Microsystems, a global provider of hardware, software and services that make the Net work, and Siebel Systems, a leading provider of multichannel eBusiness applications software, announced their continuing commitment to deliver reliable, customer-centric eBusiness solutions to joint global enterprise customers. Deepening their global strategic alliance and commitment to provide interoperability with the JavaTM 2, Enterprise Edition, (J2EETM) platform, the companies announced support for the J2EE Connectors specification in Siebel eBusiness Applications, version 7.5. Siebel Systems first introduced J2EE interoperability in Siebel eBusiness Applications, version 6.0. The J2EE Connectors provides a standard architecture for enterprise applications to interoperate with the J2EE platform.

Siebel Systems provides organizations with a proven set of industry-specific best practices, CRM applications software, and business processes, enabling corporations to sell to, market to, and serve customers across multiple channels and lines of business. The evolution and global adoption of Java technology inspires innovation supported by a level playing field and protected by the Java Community Process. J2EE technology enables customers to leverage existing applications with future applications, in a Web services, secure environment.

"Customers need to know their Siebel eBusiness Applications will interoperate with other business applications," said Stuart Wells, Senior Vice President, Sun Microsystems Market Development Organization. "Siebel Systems' commitment to J2EE will help customers improve the ROI of their Siebel eBusiness Applications by reducing integration costs and complexity."

"Our customers have indicated a strong interest in J2EE technology to meet their integration needs," said Richard Gorman, Senior Vice President Products and Alliances, Siebel Systems. "The J2EE platform and Sun's commitment to open Java Web Services can help ensure faster integration of Siebel eBusiness Applications so customers can achieve seamless levels of interoperability and flexibility across multiple channels and lines of business."

After a successful three-year business relationship, Siebel Systems and Sun Microsystems expanded their joint market presence by entering into a Global Strategic Alliance in July 2001. This worldwide alliance represents strengthened commitments by both companies to solution development and technology initiatives, global marketing campaigns and regional sales engagement for optimal customer satisfaction.
