10/23/2002 - RadiSys announced the 2.0 release of its Intel® IXP1200 Microcode Solutions Library (MSL) product, a portfolio of enhanced microcode building blocks created to support Intel's IXP family of network processors. The IXP1200 MSL 2.0 components leverage the flexibility and scalability of Intel's IXP1200 network processors, which incorporate the StrongARM processor and multiple microengines. The RadiSys MSL supplies production-quality, proven microcode components and subsystems, which developers can incorporate easily into Intel IXP1200 network processor-based designs, and ultimately accelerate product development and deployment.
Additionally, IXP1200 MSL 2.0 supports the emerging standard for Internet Protocol, IPv6, which allows developers to upgrade seamlessly from an IPv4-based implementation and easily install IPv6-based equipment. Further, the suite offers enhanced OS-9 support for the Intel IXP1200 network processor. Availability of IXP1200 MSL 2.0 positions RadiSys an important member of the Intel IXA Developer Network.
"Our mission is to develop production quality open standards-based solutions that allow users to choose the best tools to get the job done," said Chris Melson, vice president and general manager for RadiSys. "Developers can easily incorporate IXP1200 MSL 2.0 into their existing infrastructure without a complete overhaul of their current development environment and realize the benefits immediately."
Organizations developing next-generation-networking systems are under tremendous pressure to get better product to market faster and with fewer resources. Using IXP1200 MSL 2.0, developers can focus on their core competencies, and incorporate specialized packet processing functionality and traffic management algorithms via the MSL 2.0 suite. The IXP1200 MSL 2.0 provides a combination of state machine implementations and intellectual property algorithms mapped to a set of microengines, forming an end-to-end packet processing software system.
The RadiSys IXP1200 MSL 2.0 consists of four components: MSL Ethernet, MSL Gigabit Ethernet, MSL ATM and MSL Layer 2/802.1Q, which enable users to reduce development time. Whether it?s wireless infrastructure, Internet equipment or telecommunications equipment, developers designing equipment based on the Intel IXP1200 network processors can use the RadiSys MSL to offload compute intensive functions such as voice and data packet processing to the microengines.
"We are pleased that RadiSys is providing products which complement and extend Intel's network processor platform," said Nick Finamore, general manager of the Intel Network Processor Business Unit. "We believe RadiSys' MSL portfolio will assist our customers to rapidly develop next-generation communications systems."
About IXP1200 Microcode Solutions Library
The IXP1200 MSL portfolio includes:
Additional IXP1200 middleware solutions are available from RadiSys including a Forwarding Table Manager, which facilitates fast, flexible creation of microcode tables that integrate with standard routing and configuration protocols. The Forwarding Table Manager also enables custom information to be associated with each entry for specialized packet processing. RadiSys also provides the Enhanced OS-9 for IXP1200 v4.0 product. This real time operating system includes ARMv4 big-endian support for Intel IXP network processors, and RFC compliance for Internet Protocol, version 6 (RFC2460) and IPv6 Addressing Architecture (RFC2373).
