RadiSys Announces First Microcode Product for Intel IXP2400 and IXP2800 Network Processors

10/23/2002 - RadiSys announced its Intel® IXP2400/2800 Microcode Solutions Library (MSL), an off-the-shelf microcode product developed for use with Intel's IXP2400 and IXP2800 network processors. With the addition of IXP2400/2800 MSL, RadiSys has the broadest selection of MSL products in the industry that support Intel's family of IXP processors.

The RadiSys IXP2400/2800 MSL allows developers to maximize features available in the new Intel IXP 2400 and IXP 2800 processors. These processors are equipped with more microengines, and added space in each, meaning developers can pack more functionality into their designs. This combined with an additional 640 bytes of memory per microengine, hardware assisted rings and clock rates of 600 MHz, give developers the ability to design IXP-based products that can achieve OC-48 simplex (single direction) wire speed performance.

Developing production quality microcode internally can consume precious manpower, which instead could be funneled into development of intellectual property and technology that differentiates IXP-based products. The RadiSys IXP2400/2800 MSL provides production quality microcode based on Intel's sample code, offering organizations a timesaving alternative to internal development.

The increased interoperability found in the RadiSys IXP2400/2800 MSL is due to the blending of the MSL with Intel?s standardized IXA Portability Framework. RadiSys microblocks are designed to be compatible with many graphical development tools from Intel ecosystem partners such as Teja Technologies, Inc. and Consystant. This unique interoperability and compatibility enables developers to significantly reduce their overall development time.

The RadiSys IXP2400/2800 MSL consists of production-quality, data-plane microblocks and libraries. RadiSys developed the MSL with the Intel® IXA SDK 3.0. The MSL microblocks and applications are IXA Portability Framework compatible. Further, they are pre-integrated with Intel reference hardware and RadiSys board level products.
