Fujitsu LifeBook S Series Notebook Refines the Art of Mobility

10/23/2002 - Fujitsu PC Corporation (FPC) introduced the latest in its award-winning line of LifeBook S Series notebooks.

Despite its sleek, compact size, this no-compromise notebook packs a fast Mobile Intel® Pentium® III Processor 1.2GHz - M and an unprecedented 60GB hard drive1. Yet it still retains the same impressive design and dimensions users have come to expect.

Measuring just 11.5 inches wide by 9.3 inches deep by 1.36 inches high and weighing only 4.5 pounds, the LifeBook S Series notebook was among the first to incorporate a modular bay into a "thin & light" form factor and remains a trend-setting addition to the LifeBook family. The notebook's built-in modular bay accommodates a DVD/CD-RW combo drive, DVD, CD-ROM, floppy disk drive, second bay battery or weight saver module for maximum versatility while its brilliant 13.3-inch XGA TFT display and large keyboard provide excellent usability.

"Business professionals and commuters alike will appreciate the attention to detail and commitment to bringing 'truly mobile' solutions to market," said Sara Nelson, vice president of marketing, Fujitsu PC Corporation.

Integrated WiFiTM-compliant wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11b) capabilities, in addition to its existing modem and Ethernet ports, offer mobile professionals connectivity in any type of computing environment. The notebook also features two USB 2.0 ports and an IEEE 1394 port enables transferring large digital files in seconds.

For an added level of security while on the road, Fujitsu has incorporated a built-in Smart Card Reader2 and a pre-boot data Security Panel. The pre-boot data Security Panel supplies more than 800,000 possible passwords to ensure the proper user's data will be safe and secure. The built-in Smart Card Reader provides users a wide range of applications, such as secured online transactions, personalized authentication services, access to personal data and "e-cash" storage options.

To simplify IT managers' inventory control and lower the cost of ownership of their IT assets, the LifeBook S Series notebook's modular devices are cross compatible with LifeBook P2000 and LifeBook E Series notebooks. Users can carry the particular LifeBook notebook that suits their individual needs and share less often used devices, such as floppy disk drives or second bay batteries, with coworkers.

A lightweight, one-click port replicator is also a popular accessory for mobile users. This feature expands the number of ports available and allows the user to achieve better cable management.

The Fujitsu LifeBook S Series notebook comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000 Professional or Windows 98 Second Edition and comes with a 60GB, 40GB or 30GB hard drive1. The user can choose one of two recommended configurations or they can customize their notebook using the Fujitsu Configure To Order (CTO) program. Pricing starts at $1,4993. It can be purchased through Fujitsu retail and reseller channels4 as well as at or 1-877-FPC-DIRECT.
