Cypress Launches Industry’s First Search Supervisory Coprocessor at the Network Processors Conference

10/21/2002 - Cypress Semiconductor announced that it will unveil for the first time the VicharaTM 81000 Search Supervisory Coprocessor at the upcoming Network Processors Conference to be held at the Parkside Hall in San Jose, California from October 22 through October 24, 2002. In addition to this demonstration, Cypress will be highlighting several other high-speed packet-processing solutions.

Executives from Cypress Semiconductor Corporation will be participating in several speaking opportunities during the show. Jayan Ramankutty, Vice President and General Manager, will be a panelist in the Executive Roundtable on Tuesday, October 22 at 6:00 p.m. discussing trends in the communications ASSP market. On October 23 at 2 p.m. Mark Ross, Chief Technology Officer for Cypress, will make a presentation entitled "Scalability of Search Solutions" discussing future architectural trends of current search systems in a linecard.

The industry’s first search supervisory coprocessor, the Vichara81000. The Vichara coprocessor enables packet processors to achieve 40 Gbps throughput by offloading the search processing and the management of multiple searches. This maximizes the look-aside (LA-1) bus bandwidth and simplifies the overall search-system management. When used in conjunction with Cypress’s AyamaTM NSE10000 family of network search engines (NSEs), the Vichara 81000 enables up to 266 million searches per second (MSPS).

The POSIC2GVCTMframers — the industry's first framer to support virtual concatenation (VC), generic framing procedure (GFP) and packet pre-classification for OC-48/STM-16 (2.5 Gbps) SONET/SDH networks. The POSIC2GVC demonstration will highlight the device's packet pre-classification capability, which offloads work from the network processor and enables a more streamlined and efficient traffic-engineering solution for the system. The POSIC2GVC framer is ideal for metropolitan area network (MAN) and wide area network (WAN) carrier-class routers, switches, add/drop multiplexers (ADMs), and dense wave-division multiplexing (DWDM) communication systems.

The Cypress wide area network (WAN) linecard, highlights Cypress’s complete communication portfolio of line card solutions.This linecard will not only demonstrate packet policy lookups using Cypress’s network search engines but also demonstrate Cypress’s port PHYs and framers which optimize high-speed transmissions over SONET/SDH.
