10/16/2002 - Design engineers implementing industrial imaging, medical imaging, video broadcast, high-speed data compression, and military applications can now reduce product design cycles and speed time-to-market with the Avvida Systems Tsunami PCI board featuring Altera's industry-leading StratixTM device family. With the Stratix device-based Tsunami board, Avvida provides customers with the highest FPGA processing capacity, largest available memory, fastest I/O bandwidth, and highest sustainable PCI interface-all on a price-competitive PCI formatted board.
"With flexible, on-board memory and dedicated DSP blocks, the Stratix FPGAs allow designers to be more creative in tackling DSP-oriented tasks," said Ron Strauss, president of Avvida Systems. "Applications we did four years ago in a VME chassis of discrete processing boards can now be done on a Tsunami PCI board with a single Stratix FPGA."
The reconfigurability of Avvida's image systems provides a high degree of optimization for specific applications. Users can modify the Tsunami system by reprogramming the Stratix device to handle different applications, allowing for a significant level of flexibility while minimizing development costs.
With more than 10 years of experience designing Altera FPGA-based systems and as an Altera Consultants Alliance Program (ACAPSM) partner, Avvida delivers high-performance image processing systems to customers serving a wide variety of applications, such as leading-edge plasma display panel inspection systems, semiconductor and PCB manufacturing solutions, video processing, and medical imaging systems.
"The combination of Altera's Stratix device family, with its rich set of advanced features and new levels of system integration, and Avvida's extensive end-application expertise, makes the Tsunami board an advanced image processing solution," said Jeff Lamparter, director of the industrial and automotive business unit at Altera.
About Stratix Devices
Stratix devices are based on a 1.5-V, 0.13-Ám, all-layer copper SRAM process, with densities ranging from 10,570 to 114,140 logic elements (LEs) and up to 10 Mbits of RAM. Stratix devices support various differential I/O electrical standards such as the LVDS, LVPECL, PCML and HyperTransportTM standards, as well as high-speed interfaces, including the UTOPIA IV, SPI-4 Phase 2, SFI-4, 10G Ethernet XSBI, RapidIOTM, HyperTransport, and other interfaces.
