10/15/2002 - IDTTM (Integrated Device Technology), a leading communications IC company and the leading provider of network search engines and classification processors, announced that it is now shipping the latest version of its complete classification processing software development kit (SDK) for its PAX.port family of classification and content inspection processors. PAX.works 3.4 is used to prototype, test, and debug complex classification, content inspection and regular expression matching that enables intelligent application management in next-generation networking equipment. The SDK is available through IDT’s wholly owned subsidiary, IDT Canada, Inc., formerly Solidum Systems.
IDT’s PAX.ware 3.4 provides programming and execution environments that make it possible for equipment designers to develop and test classification processing tailored to their needs. Most importantly, PAX.works software can be used to program IDT’s family of PAX.port classification processors, thereby reducing time to market development cycles for new equipment designs.
Based on an open, fourth-generation pattern description language, PAX.ware 3.4 provides the ultimate programming flexibility for classification and content inspection processing. This programming language makes it easier to program complex classification because it can represent any communications protocol header or regular expression as a pattern of bits in a standard text file based on a predefined format and syntax, including protocols that have fixed and variable length fields. As a result, developers of telecommunications networking equipment do not have to restrict the packet processing power of their equipment based on protocol boundaries, search key length limitations, or rule complexities.
"The PAX.works SDK is a proof point to IDT’s approach to provide system-level solutions that accelerate time to market, increase system performance and reduce development costs for designers of next generation networking equipment," said Joe Aragona, marketing manager for IDT’s IP co-processor division. "As fourth-generation software, our latest software kit utilizes a pattern description language that provides unprecedented programming flexibility for classification and content inspection processing."
This release offers significantly reduced host memory footprint, and faster classification generation time. It also provides a better guarantee of throughput at wire rates. It contains two principal components: PAX.desk and PAX.rtime.
PAX.desk provides system designers with tools supported on commonly available desktop programming environments to create and test classification applications that translate standard and user-defined policies into a protocol memory program. PAX.rtime is a set of functions that allows runtime construction and manipulation of the pattern memory program by an embedded application.
