10/8/2002 - As a part of "Make A Difference Day" America's largest day of service, Tektronix, one of Oregon's first high-tech companies, announced that it will partner with VolunteerWorks, Oregon's oldest clearinghouse of volunteer opportunities, to present its second annual Community Volunteer Fair, Saturday, October 26th, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Tektronix' Beaverton Headquarters.
"Volunteering Today For A Better Tomorrow" is the theme of the fair, which will provide a forum for more than 25 local non-profit agencies to communicate their need for volunteers and other contributions to individuals in the Portland metro area looking to support the local community. The fair will feature a food drive (proteins and boxed meals), and events for the entire family activities including creating CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) greeting cards, meeting McGruff the Crime Dog and creating McGruff badges, touring police cars and fire trucks on display.
"We held the first Community Volunteer Fair last fall in the wake of the September 11th tragedy as a resource for Tektronix employees and the public to identify ways to give back to their local community and the response was tremendously positive," said Rick Wills, President, CEO and Chairman of Tektronix, Inc. " Tektronix recognizes the on-going need of local non-profit organizations who continue to require volunteer support and donations. Tektronix has supported the local community for more than 55 years and we are proud to be able to sponsor an event that will tap the cooperative spirit of our co-workers, friends and neighbors."
"We appreciate the commitment of Tektronix to our community by hosting this annual event," said Alison Carl, Executive Director, VolunteerWorks. "Last year's event proved to be a wonderful resource for our local nonprofits to connect the community to meaningful volunteer service. It's organizations like Tektronix that make this a great place to live."
"Participating in last year's Community Volunteer Fair was a great success for our agency. We'll be there again this year," stated LaVena Rae Secrest, Manager of Programs, Oregon Donor Program. "Our volunteers, who are transplant recipients, will be there to provide information and hand out donor cards."
VolunteerWorks connects people ideas and energy to community needs. Serving the Portland community since 1971, VolunteerWorks partners with hundreds of nonprofit agencies to improve community life in the Portland metro area. VolunteerWorks is a community outreach program of Legacy Health System and receives financial support from the Corporation for National Service, United Way, individuals, members, program fees and fundraising events.
