10/7/2002 - McObject has finalized its distribution agreement with A.I. Corporation (AIC), a major Japanese embedded technology reseller and service provider. Under the partnership, AIC will sell and support McObject’s eXtremeDB in-memory database system (IMDS), providing developers with a key software component for consumer electronics, industrial equipment and other emerging intelligent devices.
AIC has built a one-stop industrial software solution for embedded systems developers in Japan, representing nearly 30 companies. The Tokyo-based firm serves a range of industries, with a commitment to providing the same level of technical support as the maker for local customers. Represented products include protocol stacks, real-time operating systems and compilers/debuggers.
The partnership with McObject adds a fast, reliable embedded database. As devices grow "smarter," they must efficiently manage larger volumes of more complex data. McObject developed eXtremeDB to meet this need. eXtremeDB provides key data management capabilities—including coordination between threads, fast and flexible navigation, and assured data integrity through transactions—while maintaining an ultra-small RAM footprint of less than 130K.
By operating entirely within memory, eXtremeDB eliminates disk I/O—a major source of performance overhead—as well as CPU-intensive functions such as caching and buffer management. This accelerates data management, which is vital in devices based on less powerful microprocessors.
"AIC customers include Japanese innovators such as Fujitsu, Mitsubishi, Hitachi, NEC and Canon. Many development groups will appreciate an embedded database that delivers needed performance while supporting the choice of economical hardware platforms. We look forward to a warm reception for McObject and eXtremeDB," said AIC President Hiro Kato.
"Japan, with its success in a wide range of technology categories, is often the first choice when American embedded software firms expand overseas. This makes for a demanding market. McObject is confident that with a strong partner such as AIC, our unique in-memory database technology will stand out and gain adoption for many challenging development projects," said Steve Graves, McObject co-founder and CEO.
McObject LLC, based in Issaquah, WA, is committed to building data management technology that makes intelligent devices smarter, and to providing first-rate support and consulting services to customers and partners. With more than 30 years experience in compilers, real-time systems, embedded data management and kernel level device-driver development, McObject's founders are well-suited to deliver database technology that becomes as ubiquitous as computing itself.
A.I. Corporation (AIC) is a technology reseller with 15 years experience in the Japan industrial software market. The company’s professional-grade marketing and technical expertise have made it an ideal partner for nearly 30 companies with products ranging from real-time operating systems to protocol stacks, compilers and programming/modeling tools. AIC customers comprise a Who’s Who of major Japanese manufacturers, including Hitachi, Canon, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, Honda, NEC, Sony, Toshiba and Yamaha. Based in Tokyo, the company is committed to providing the same level of technical support as the maker for local customers.
