10/3/2002 - Mentor Graphics announced that STMicroelectronics (ST) has decided to deploy the Calibre InteractiveTM tool for physical verification of cell and block designs. This development represents ST's expansion of Calibre® technology throughout the design flow, from cell/block and full-chip verification through manufacturability. ST produces a wide range of semiconductor products, from analog/mixed signal ICs to systems-on-chip.
Calibre has long been the internal standard for full-chip designs at ST. By moving forward with Calibre Interactive, ST will enjoy full support of golden reference Calibre rule files for cell/block designs. Calibre seamlessly integrates with the existing layout environment at ST, giving designers an interactive version of Calibre. This brings the same level of physical verification performance to both interactive and batch modes. Calibre's advanced hierarchical processing engine, design independence and the ability to integrate across all design phases, from design to silicon, make it well-suited for ST's varied semiconductor solutions.
"Now that we use the same comprehensive Calibre rule files for cell/block verification as we do for full-chip verification, we have confidence that the design will be successful through tapeout with the least amount of iterations necessary," said Philippe Magarshack, group vice president, Central R&D, STMicroelectronics.
"Our goal is to provide rock-solid performance, capacity and accuracy at all levels of physical verification and manufacturability," said Joseph Sawicki, general manager, Design-to-Silicon division, Mentor Graphics. "The fact that an industry leader like ST is fully engaged with the Calibre tool suite lets us know we are meeting that goal."
Using the Calibre tool suite throughout the flow, as ST does, reduces cycle time and allows the customer to avoid physical verification discrepancies that arise when different flows are used at multiple design stages. Calibre Interactive can be invoked within popular layout environments, such as Cadence® Design Systems' Virtuoso® and Mentor's IC Station®, using the layout tool's pull-down menu.
