10/1/2002 - SanDisk announced that it has signed three key distributors in Mexico and started selling products in Mexico. More than 350 retail stores now carry SanDisk's broad line of removable flash memory cards and card readers.
SanDisk has signed C&D Comercial, Vanta and Imaldi to distribute its retail products. They are being sold at major retail stores in Mexico including Costco, Liverpool Department Store, Office Depot, Office Max, Palacio de Hierro, Sears and others.
The driving force behind SanDisk's expansion into Mexico is the growing popularity of digital cameras, hand held computers, digital video cameras, MP3 players and other mobile devices that use removable storage cards to store digital images, video, music files and data.
"The consumer electronics revolution is just starting in Mexico and the number of products that use removable storage cards is growing at double digit growth rates," said Natalie Eisner, market research analyst for International Data Corporation (IDC). "Mexico represents a significant opportunity for SanDisk."
Ed Moro, SanDisk's director of retail sales, Americas, said, "Our distribution partners have strong relationships with the consumer electronics, photographic and computer channels. In addition, they have proven track records with the top retailers in the country so consumers should be able to purchase SanDisk storage cards and accessories at major retailers throughout the country."
SanDisk's line of flash memory cards, in capacities ranging from 16 megabytes to one gigabyte, includes CompactFlash®, Memory StickTM, MultiMediaCards, SD Cards and SmartMediaTM. The company also offers a full range of card readers and adapters. Preliminary results from IDC's comprehensive report on the growth of the digital still camera (DSC) market in Latin America indicate that over 160,000 DSCs are expected to ship in Mexico this year, accounting for 47% of the total Latin American region.
SanDisk, the world's largest supplier of flash data storage products, designs, manufactures and markets industry-standard, solid-state data, digital imaging and audio storage products using its patented, high density flash memory and controller technology. SanDisk is based in Sunnyvale, CA.
CompactFlash is a registered trademark of SanDisk Corp.
