10/1/2002 - Following the recent announcement of its ATA/UDMA flash disk series initiative, BiTMICRO Networks unveils the UDMA-66 flash disk storage devices at TechNet 2002 AFCEA International Conference being held in Washington D.C. BiTMICRO engineered these cost-effective storage solutions specifically for this initiative as a pledge to alleviate storage bandwidth bottleneck in mission critical applications.
BiTMICRO's ATA/UDMA-66 flash disk drives support an expansive array of embedded and applied computing applications that require high performance, reliability and ruggedness. First customer shipment of these devices to several of BiTMICRO's customers in communications and network elements, video on demand, in-flight entertainment, film editing, military, aerospace, manufacturing automation, oil pipeline monitoring, and other industrial and embedded applications are scheduled this month.
The 2.5-inch E-Disk 2A66 and 3.5inch E-Disk 3A66 ATA/UDMA-66 flash drive devices are the first in the industry. These flash drives support PIO Modes 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 and UDMA Modes 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4. By eliminating seek time, latency and other electro-mechanical delays inherent in conventional hard disk drives (HDD), they have read and write rates of up to 66.6 MB/sec and random access time of less than 0.068 milliseconds.
The UDMA E-Disks are high capacity flash disk drives available in a variety of sizes. The low-profile E-Disks in 2.5-inch HDD footprint are offered with 128 MB minimum capacity under 8.5 mm and up to 17408 MB in 24.9 mm height. The 3.5-inch version comes with maximum capacity of 77824 MB in 50.4 mm height and minimum capacity of 128MB in 13.13 mm height.
E-Disks offer unparalleled advances in flash drive solid state storage technology. With higher data rates, they also operate dependably in adverse environments including unstable and ungraceful power degradations, 120,000 feet high operating altitude, 1,500 Gs and 16.4 Gs of shock and vibration respectively in all axis, and military operating temperature of -60 degrees to +95 degrees centigrade. They are lightweight and consume only 4.5 watts of power.
Their dynamic, high performance data storage that allows critical information to be always on, continuously available, and fully secure, is supported by a self-monitoring, self-healing, and dynamically provisioned storage that makes E-Disks well suited for mission critical applications. BiTMICRO's patented dynamic wear leveling algorithm provides enhanced endurance and maximum data integrity that contributes to E-Disks' outstanding performance.

The E-Disk flash disk drive product family is a 'plug and play' solution that has been tested on all major platforms. The E-Disk is fully compatible with Linux, Solaris, Windows, MacOS and LynxOS. Other supported operating systems include, but are not limited to: AIX, FreeBSD, HP-UX, IRIX, NetBSD, OS/2, QNX, VxWorks, SCO Unixware and Open Server, Solaris X86, and Tru64.
The E-Disks solid state flash drive solutions are also offered with SCSI or Fibre Channel interfaces in 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch HDD footprints and 19-inch rackmount configurations.
